Funding Made Available to Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area

M.P. Daryl Kramp announce Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area was 1 of 10 areas selected to have access to funding for improving access to the wildlife area.  The goal to provide "...funding which will focus on connecting Canadians to nature by: improving basic infrastructure to make sites more accessible; creating new or expanded trails and viewing platforms; providing on-site programs delivered through collaborative partnerships; and supporting a variety of low-impact public uses, such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, or wildlife observation and photography."

Why are Protected areas created?

"Forests, wetlands, grasslands, mountains, and coastal and marine areas are all integral parts of Canada's natural capital, which provides health, socio-cultural and economic benefits to Canadians. Protected areas have long been recognized as one of the most effective tools for the conservation of natural capital, its  biodiversity and the complex interactions among the elements of the biosphere.

Wildlife and wildlife habitat are vital to the ecological and biological processes that are essential to the preservation of life. Sufficient high-quality habitat is of utmost importance for the survival of wildlife populations, and essential for the maintenance of ecosystems on which all beings depend for their survival. The conservation of these ecological processes is essential for fresh water and clean air, the protection of soil resources, climate regulation, the capture and storage of carbon, and pest and disease control, among other valuable functions."  (from Environment Canada)

Mr. Kramp has been working with local groups who are concerned with protecting the biodiversity and unique habitat of the South Shore of Prince Edward County.  He states, "I am committed to conserve and restore our local lands and waters while connecting families to our natural spaces which concurs with our National Conservation Plan.” said Daryl Kramp, M.P. "Improvements to Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area will enhance public access while protecting this area’s unique natural heritage."

 Thank you Mr. Kramp.
